I absolutely love the concept of -finding a creative endeavor that lights one up. Taking a moment to think about what that is for me at the moment was a wonderful experience. Although I am overwhelmed by the amount of work I am currently trying to manage, I have discovered that at this time, in this world, with my workload, working on my knitted Emotional Support Chicken absolutely brings me peace and lights me up. (Are you smiling?) I smile every time I think about it, as do most people I tell. A completely silly but wonderful way to bring peace to my life in this upside down world. I hope everyone who has been told that they are not creative can find something to light up their life- often when absolutely not expected. Thank you for this great piece. And, I love seeing your work!

The more that I saw the clothespin figures the better I liked them. Delightful humor. Thank you. Pat Dell

Thank you for this insightful article promoting the many powers of art and the wonderful book: Your Brain on Art. I am a co-founder of Nimbus Arts, and we featured that book in our 2023 Annual Impact Report - you may want to check it out at https://www.nimbusarts.org/2023-annual-report/. I'd also invite you and your readers to take a class at Nimbus or participate in our free community programming to experience the power and joys of artmaking in community.

Thank you, Dana, for the kind words and for sharing the Nimbus Arts 2023 Impact Report — and for your continued leadership. The report makes a compelling case for the arts as a public good. One line that stayed with me: “Art engagement recruits the same brain networks as complex social behavior.” In a time of increasing fragmentation, that’s not just inspiring — it’s instructive.

The numbers tell their own story. In 2023, more than 4,000 people participated in Nimbus programs, including 114 at-risk teens who each received over 100 hours of instruction and mentoring. Those are big figures, but the impact is clearly personal.

It’s clear Nimbus is doing vital work. Napa Valley Features readers might benefit from a closer look — especially with what we hear could be some exciting developments ahead.
