Very inspiring article!

For several years [in the nineties], the Napa County Commission on the Status of Women celebrated local women's history by collecting life stories from Napa County women. Each Commissioner picked a woman well known to them to write their own story, so the writers came from varied backgrounds, and there was no imposed uniformity on political stance, style or content. The focus was not only on women in politics, although some leaders gave us inspiring stories. We published them in a booklet, distributed at an annual March recognition event. Volunteer professional photographers took amazing shots of the women for the publication. I wonder what the Commission is doing now, and if this local history project might be brought back, by the Commission or others. Perhaps some of the original interviewees could contribute an update. A similar project today would shed light on how the women's movement now interfaces with other groups working for personal liberation and civic participation.

Fantastic idea. Want to head up the initial effort to gather that info and redistribute to Napa Valley Features’ readers? Either way, thank you for sharing this important information.

I will take a closer look at this and report back sometime this month any helpful information, including on the dynamic organizations which some of the Commission's honorees founded or helped to grow [in synch with Lynn's suggested alternative below]-- among many others, NEWS and the original Clinic Ole.

Another alternative is to donate to organizations or causes that these women supported

I am happy that women have overcome the little housewife role. But in some societies even in our country it still exists. Is it the way mostly men are raised or is it a sexual thing for feelings of superiority. There are many men who would never vote for a woman no matter how capable she might be. Which is sad.
