What a loss! To Calistoga, surely, as well as to Calistoga and the world and art of f journalism! O hope ha Sweeney will find a spot to write and edit. Well-written piece.
Hello Cynthia - I rue the day local print newspapers disappear! We will be an ill informed community. Thank you for your leadership during your years with the Calistogan. It was lovely to see your byline again even if online.
Those of us who didn’t see your final issue would love to. Any chance of at least seeing the front page? I also mourn the loss of print journalism, my former career.
Such a sad and horrible story. And such a misersble sign of the times! Bless you for sharing, Cynthia! And bless you for everything you did for the noble cause of community journalism!
Cynthia, Thanks for telling a good story about a sad aspect of journalism. You are an excellent writer and are missed in the Napa Valley. I worked for the Calistogan for about five years under the prior owner, Margery Brandon. She wasn't much of a journalist but at least she didn't shut down the paper!
Lee has treated our papers and the valiant staff with no caring, it's seemed. As we all pivot away from print media, may we still have the local voices keeping us informed--as does Napa Valley Features, and the "new" Calistoga/Yountville joint ventures.
Sad, I wonder if there wasn't this corporate monopoly that the local papers could have made it on their own like they always did. Buy them all up then shut them down. Wicked.

Hi Trudy, thank you for reading, subscribing, and all your contributions to the community. Lovely to hear from you!
Brilliant, Cynthia. You captured that sense of loss we all felt and continue to feel for Lee-owned papers.
Thanks Sasha. Hope you are doing well.
Thank you for this heartfelt article about the last days of Calistoga’s 144 year old newspaper.

Susan, it should be online, otherwise Napa Valley Historical Society or Sharpsteen Museum.
Thank you my friend. Your every word made a difference. You are missed everyday.
Thanks Kellie for your support and dedication to vital issues in the Valley.
