NAPA VALLEY, Calif. — Welcome to Napa Valley Features’ Weekender. Every Friday morning we provide a selection of activities and experiences around the region that has been curated by the Napa Valley Features team. Our goal is to provide at least a few free or low-cost events and to cover every town in our valley. This is an eclectic list, ranging from theatrical readings to musical concerts, from wine celebrations to art gallery tours, from charitable walks to astronomical marvels. We hope both locals and visitors find this list valuable, engaging and complete with sufficient details to eliminate the need for extensive searches for times, locations or any associated costs.

American Canyon
Napa-Vallejo Flea Market: Open Sundays from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. year-round, this may be the largest and longest-lived flea market in Northern California. If you haven’t been, think community garage sale on steroids. 303 S Kelly Road, American Canyon, 707-226-8862.

Angwin
Angwin’s NBC Pottery & Friends will hold a Pop-Up Sale from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 17 at their studio, 410 Circle Drive. Live music by Henry Wolfe and Melting Pot Bistro & Grill will provide fresh Korean, Filipino and Hawaiian BBQ. For more information call (707) 965-4622.
Calistoga
Grove 45's High Tea, taking place on Sunday, Dec. 17, from 2 to 4 p.m., offers afternoon tea for tea enthusiasts. Guests can experience blending their own tea, complemented by a selection of sandwiches and olive oil-infused desserts. Rosé from Museion by Napa will be available for purchase by the glass or bottle. Priced at $65 per person, this event promises a relaxing and tasteful experience. Grove 45's High Tea will be a recurring event, held on the third Sunday of every month. The event takes place at Grove 45, located at 965 Silverado Trail North, Calistoga.
Calistoga Farmers’ Market: This year-round market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday. The Calistoga Farmers’ Market, managed by a Market Advisory Committee under the umbrella of the Calistoga Chamber of Commerce, is full of fresh vegetables, local fish, arts, crafts, baked goods and music. It's located on Washington Street adjacent to the Community Center and across from City Hall.
All are invited to Maria Concetto Winery’s Karaoke Night every Sunday from 7 to 10 p.m., at 1367 Lincoln Ave., Calistoga. Admission is free. Our wines available by the glass or by the bottle. Feeling hungry? We've partnered with Bricco Osteria to bring you Italian meals right to Maria Concetto Winery Tasting Salon.
Napa
The grand opening of the Bicycle Skills Course will be Saturday, Dec. 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Skyline Wilderness Park in Napa. The Napa Open Space District is offering food, drinks and fun in the park. The celebration includes live bike demos and a chance to ride the course, also known as a pump track. Entrance fees waived from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for attendees of this event. The Napa County Regional Park and Open Space District is funded in part by the generous support of the Napa County Board of Supervisors.
Three Napa artists are offering a one-day only Art Pop Up Show and Sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16 at 1520 Behrens St. in Napa. All are invited to come and see the amazing works of three Napa artists: Frank Trozzo, Diane Slade and Susan Loomis. This is your chance to add some color to your home or find the right gift for the people in your life. Unique original paintings, prints and cards will be available. Karen Winograde Pottery Annual Holiday Open Studio will be held Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 16-17, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event showcases the artist's newest work in functional pottery, suitable for table, kitchen, floral and garden use. Visitors can enjoy snacks and libations at this free event while browsing the pottery collection. The studio is located at 2394 Big Ranch Road, Napa.
The Meritage Resort, 875 Bordeau Way in Napa invites guests to its Winter Wonderland event, running from Friday, Nov. 17, through Sunday, Jan. 7. This seasonal transformation includes an ice-skating rink and offers beer and wine from onsite tasting rooms, along with the option to reserve an igloo or fire pit for a more intimate experience. Ticket prices for ice skating are $25, which includes skate rental and a 90-minute session. Hours of operation vary, with the rink open from 4 to 10 p.m. now and extended hours during the winter holiday break from Dec. 16 to Jan. 7. Additional attractions include s'mores fire pits, rinkside igloos and Santa's Story Time on weekends until Dec. 25.
The Silverado Resort in Napa offers a festive Santa Train experience on Saturdays and Sundays from Nov. 25 to Dec. 24, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Families can enjoy a magical journey around the Mansion Circle. The train rides are complimentary, adding to the holiday spirit. The Silverado Resort is located at 1600 Atlas Peak Road, Napa. (707) 257-5400.
The Napa Farmers Market is held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays at 1100 West St. at Pearl, also on Tuesdays at the same time and place.
The Grill at Silverado Resort in Napa invites families to breakfast with Santa Claus every Saturday from Nov. 25 until Dec. 23. The event features two sessions, one from 9 to 10 a.m. and another from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In addition to Santa's presence for family photos, the buffet menu includes a variety of breakfast options. From Friday, Nov. 24 to Friday, Dec. 22, Cuvaison vineyard in Napa offers a festive experience with its "Bright Nights" event. Every Friday and Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m., guests can enjoy the enchanting view of the vineyard adorned with thousands of twinkling lights. St. Helena
Akemi Adams’ handmade studio pottery winter sale is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 16-17 at 1652 Voorhees Circle, St. Helena. Adams has wood fired works from Japanese style anagama and train kiln she fired in recent years. They are fired with locally harvested wood for natural ash glaze, which makes each piece one of a kind and rustic. She also has glazed functional pottery with home-made glaze. Handel's Messiah: A St. Helena Christmas Concert will take place on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 4 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. Celebrating Craig Bond's 50 years of musical service, the St. Helena Choral Society will perform Handel's “Messiah,” featuring the Chamber Singers, a local chamber orchestra and renowned soloists at the Performing Arts Center, St. Helena High School. Tickets are available for $25 in advance at Napa Valley Roasting Co. or online, with a limited number at the door for $30, and student/youth tickets for Saturday at $15 online. The 2nd Annual Greystone Winter Faire, scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 17, from noon to 3 p.m., offers a festive family experience at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone. The event features holiday music, hot drinks, festive food and a range of activities suitable for all ages, including cookie-decorating and a visit with Santa. Attendees can explore the Barrel Room, enjoy seasonal offerings, and shop from local vendors and artisans. Admission is $25, with free entry for children 6 and younger. Yountville
Hill Family Estate in Yountville offers a grapevine wreath-making class on Saturdays between Nov. 25 and Dec. 23, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Participants will learn how to craft wreaths using grapevine canes from the estate's vineyards. Every Friday and Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m. Hotel Villagio in Yountville hosts live music in its lobby. The free event takes place at 6481 Washington St.
Sunrise yoga at Bardessono Hotel and Spa rooftop pool deck: The event takes place every Saturday from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. This morning yoga session focuses on breath work and meditation, providing a serene start to the weekend. Napa’s Hanukkah celebration, a lighting of the Menorah will be Dec. 22 at Veterans Park.

Donation opportunities
The Clif Family Foundation and the Napa Valley Vine Trail Coalition recently announced a transformative challenge gift of $2.5 million for the construction of the Napa Valley Vine Trail link connecting Yountville to St. Helena to create 31 continuous miles of the Vine Trail from Calistoga to Napa. The Clif Family Foundation invites Napa Valley vineyard owners to join them in the $50 Per Acre Campaign by pledging to donate $50 per commercially producing vineyard acre each year for five years, which the Clif Family Foundation will match up to $2.5 million. The $50 Per Acre Campaign’s goal is to achieve pledges from the owners of 10,000 acres to raise $2.5 million and, when matched, raise $5 million. The collaboration with the Clif Family Foundation and Napa Valley vineyard owners will raise 25% of the funds needed for the construction of the Yountville to St. Helena Vine Trail link that will in turn be matched by 75% federal, state and local grants resulting in leveraging every dollar invested in the campaign with seven additional dollars. Another donation opportunity in Napa Valley is the 2023 Give!Guide campaign, organized by Napa Valley CanDo. This initiative, running from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, supports 76 local nonprofits covering a broad range of causes that include animals, arts and culture, community, education, environment, health and wellness, and support for seniors and youth. The campaign has been instrumental in raising nearly $5 million for Napa nonprofits to date. The Give!Guide offers a user-friendly website where you can browse nonprofits by category, view an alphabetical list of all participating organizations or download a donation form for mailing in contributions. Donations start at $10, allowing everyone to participate according to their capacity, and are tax-deductible. The real-time ticker on the website displays current donation totals, bringing a dynamic aspect to the giving process.
Volunteer opportunities
Festival Napa Valley: Festival Napa Valley offers a range of volunteer roles, from community housing hosts for summer educational programs to concert ushers, ensuring public events run smoothly. They value the unique skills and backgrounds of their volunteers and are committed to providing a positive experience. Volunteers are essential for the success of their programs and events. Napa Parks and Recreation: Napa Parks and Recreation offers various volunteering opportunities fitting different schedules and interests. Whether it's assisting with a park clean-up, tree planting, acting as a park docent/guide, coaching a sports team, teaching a class, assisting with special events, or being a Napa Lighted Art Festival Ambassador, there's something for everyone. Elaine Jennings presents “Jazz pour Noël” Jazz for Christmas and the holidays with Elaine Jennings, jazz vocalist and Wayne de la Cruz on piano from 7 to 10 p.m., Friday, Dec. 22 at The Saint, St. Helena’s chic restaurant and boutique wine lounge, 1351 Main St. Join us for an evening of holiday jazz classics. A deadline of Dec. 31 has been established for artists to participate in a new event designed to elevate the profile of the arts in Napa. Event creator and organizer Julie Eppich has planned a quarterly event pairing retailers with artists where both benefit. The first event will coincide with the Napa Valley Mustard Celebration and will take place the weekend of Feb. 10-11, 2024. There is no cost for artists to sign up. Appellation St. Helena will host bASH, its annual wine and food pairing competition from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday, March 23, 2024 in the historic barrel room at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in St. Helena. Participants will visit tasting stations where the wines from 20 ASH wineries will be paired with savory bites prepared by ‘Rising Star’ CIA students. Attendees also will vote with tokens, and we will be awarding the top three student teams, plus a professional team, the “People’s Choice Best Pairing.” Each year is a sell-out event, with many attendees promising to return the following year.
