Napa Green is hosting a climate-action fundraising dinner on Friday, April 26, from 6 to 10 p.m. at a private residence in South Stags Leap. The event, limited to 20 guests, features Neotempo wines and a menu crafted by award-winning Chef Dave Cruz. The evening's theme, "All Things Bottle Sustainability," aims to foster conversations on sustainability and climate action in the wine industry. The Fire Safe Fair, a free public event focused on fire safety and preparedness, will be held at the Silverado Resort Mansion Garden Tent on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Featured speakers include state Sen. Bill Dodd, CAL FIRE unit chief Mike Marcucci and Napa County fire administrator David Shew. Festival Napa Valley, known for its (mostly) classical music presentations, announced that tickets for its 2024 summer season, running from Saturday, July 6, through Sunday, July 21, are now on sale. The festival offers a blend of music, wine and cuisine, set against the scenic backdrop of Napa Valley. Also available are patron passes for preferred seating, valet parking, lounge access and exclusive events that include vintners’ luncheons and patron dinners. (R) 43rd Napa Valley Writers’ Conference at Napa Valley College
The 43rd Napa Valley Writers’ Conference, a gathering of authors spanning antiquity to contemporary society, is set for July 21-26 at Napa Valley College. The conference features a translation program led by classicist Emily Wilson, acclaimed for her translations of “The Iliad” and “The Odyssey.” The event includes juried workshops in fiction and poetry with a deadline for applications on April 22. An educational wine seminar and blind tasting event will be held at Venge Vineyards, 4708 Silverado Trail North on Saturday, April 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wine educator Len Tolstunov, WSET 3, will lead the session, focusing on wines from the United States, Italy and Spain, including varietals such as cabernet sauvignon, Chianti and Rioja. On Sunday morning, April 21, at 10 a.m., St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will be hosting an event for all Calistogans who are passionate about the well-being of our community. The event will begin with a gathering in the church, 1504 Myrtle St., and a short sermon by the Rev. William “Father Mac” McIlmoyl to be followed by a meal catered by a local vendor. Father Mac and several members of St. Luke’s explain what they understand their mission in Calistoga to be. There will be no charge. *(R) Salute to Culinary Cinema
The Napa Valley Film Festival and The Culinary Institute of America host "Salute to Culinary Cinema!" from April 5 to 7 at The CIA at Copia, 500 First St. This event features film screenings of "The Taste of Things," "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," "The Hundred-Foot Journey," and "Tampopo," curated by Turner Classic Movies’ Dave Karger. Each screening is paired with a culinary tribute by the CIA, with special guest chefs including Roland Passot, Joel Guillon, Phil Tessier and CIA's Annie Hongkham. April: Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks encounter: In April (after sunset PST), comet 12P/Pons-Brooks, brightening significantly, may be visible in the western sky. On April 12, it nears Jupiter, aiding its visibility. By April 21, it's at peak brightness near the sun. Also, during the April 8 total solar eclipse it may be visible near the eclipsed sun, offering a unique celestial spectacle. Keep an eye out for this impressive comet.

UpStage Napa Valley invites playwrights and aspiring writers to submit their scripts for the Fourth Annual PlayFest, slated for Oct. 11-27 at Grace Episcopal Church, St. Helena. This year's theme, "Just a Bit Outside," encourages original works for a 10- to 20-minute performance with a maximum of three actors and one set.
