January through March. The Napa Valley Mustard Celebration returns this winter with expanded participation from cities and towns across the valley, from American Canyon to Calistoga. Highlights include the fourth annual NVMC poster competition, won by Jessel Miller, with honorable mentions for the other 11 participating artists. Festival Napa Valley introduces a “Choose Your Price” ticket option for its 2025 Summer Season, aiming to make performances accessible to everyone. Launching in March, this groundbreaking model allows attendees to choose ticket prices starting as low as $0-$5, with the option to contribute more to support the festival’s educational and community programs. Friday, March 7, 6 to 8 p.m. Picayune Cellars & Mercantile hosts a French bistro-inspired evening featuring chef Ross Melling’s coq au vin with Robuchon's pomme purée, bacon lardons and button mushrooms, paired with a seasonal salad and vanille crème brûlée. The eighth Napa Art Walk features nine sculptures by artists from the United States and Canada that explore the theme of climate action and sustainability. Through the end of March. The Napa Valley Mustard Celebration features mustard fields and events highlighting local art, wine and food. The festivities coincide with the “Wright from the Heart Show” at the Steve Rogers Gallery (Jan. 16 to March 28). A few other events include:

Florence Whisenant - Artist Reception. Friday, Feb. 7, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Florence Whisenant presents an exhibit of ink and colored pencil illustrations exploring the decline of marine and plant life due to global warming and habitat loss, with a focus on coral reefs and marine species. The artist, a retired Napa Valley art teacher, hopes to inspire environmental appreciation and action through her work.
Nourish for Resilience. Thursday, Feb. 20, 4 to 5 p.m. Holistic Nutrition Consultant Mary Sheila teaches about the role of adrenal health in vitality and aging, offering tips to nourish these essential first responders for optimal health.

Feb. 7, just after sunset. Venus and Jupiter will appear very close together in the evening sky, forming a striking conjunction. Venus will shine brilliantly, while Jupiter will have a golden hue. This is an excellent opportunity for wide-field astrophotography.

Full Snow Moon

Feb. 12, moonrise around 5:30 p.m. The February full moon, known as the Snow Moon, fully illuminates the night sky. Named by Native American tribes for heavy snowfall during this time of year, this is the perfect time for capturing moonlit landscapes or detailed lunar shots.

Mercury at Greatest Western Elongation

Feb. 15, before sunrise. Mercury reaches its greatest western elongation, making it visible in the pre-dawn sky. Look low on the eastern horizon for this elusive planet. A telephoto lens or binoculars will enhance your view.

Orion Nebula Prime Viewing

Throughout February, evening hours. The Orion Nebula (M42) is at its best visibility this month, located in Orion’s "sword." Use a telescope or zoom lens to capture this stunning star-forming region.

Winter Milky Way Viewing

Throughout February, after sunset. The winter Milky Way arches across the sky in early evening hours, providing excellent opportunities for wide-angle astrophotography. Look toward Monoceros and Canis Major constellations for rich star fields.

Pleiades Star Cluster (M45)

Throughout February, evening hours. The Pleiades, also known as the Seven Sisters, is a bright, open star cluster visible high in the evening sky. It’s a favorite target for both binoculars and wide-field photography.

New Moon

Feb. 28, all night. The absence of moonlight creates ideal conditions for observing faint deep-sky objects such as galaxies and star clusters under dark skies. Head to a dark-sky location for long-exposure astrophotography.
