A new website from the Napa/Solano Area Agency on Aging helps older and disabled adults in Napa County — and those who care for them — access free local support services. The site features easy-to-navigate directories for resources such as transportation, healthcare counseling, legal aid and caregiver respite, plus downloadable resource guides in English and Spanish. Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 18–19. Napa Green and the Regenerative Viticulture Foundation present a two-day event focused on building soil health and agroecosystem resilience through regenerative practices. Nov. 18 at Opus One Winery features workshops, panels and the launch of the One Block Challenge (1BC). Avril Angevine Explores Mexican Photography — Friday, Oct. 10, noon to 1 p.m. Arts lecturer Avril Angevine will give a talk at the Yountville Library on the evolution of photography in Mexico, highlighting its blend of folk art, modernism and Mesoamerican influence. From surreal street scenes to iconic images such as “Our Lady of the Iguanas,” the lecture will explore how Mexican photography captures the country’s complex visual identity.
Learn American Mahjong— Tuesday, Oct. 14, 10 a.m. to noon. “American Mahjong 101: Learn, Play, Connect” is a beginner-friendly class at the Yountville Library where teens and adults can learn the basics of the game, no experience required.
Tech Help Offered — Thursday, Oct. 16, 11 a.m. to noon. Get one-on-one assistance with your device during “Tech Help” at the Yountville Library. Oct. 10 through 26, Valley Players presents Tom Stoppard’s tragicomedy “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead” at the Yountville Community Center. Closest Approach to Earth: Through October. Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) is predicted to become very bright, potentially reaching naked-eye visibility as it passes through the inner solar system. Its brightness and tail development will depend on its activity as it approaches the sun. Best viewing time: predawn hours in October. Where to look: in the eastern sky, near constellations such as Leo, Virgo and possibly Hydra, depending on its trajectory. This comet could be one of the most spectacular astronomical events of the year if its brightness predictions hold true.
Annular Solar Eclipse ("Ring of Fire")*
Oct. 14, partial eclipse begins at ~8:05 a.m.; maximum at ~9:19 a.m. Napa Valley will experience a partial solar eclipse (~84% obscuration). Use certified solar glasses or solar filters for safe viewing and photography.
Orionids Meteor Shower Peak
Oct. 21–22, after midnight. Produces about 20 meteors per hour at its peak. Known for their bright and fast meteors originating from Halley’s Comet debris. The moon will be about 37% illuminated during this time but should not interfere significantly with meteor viewing.
New Moon
Oct. 22, all night. A moonless night provides excellent conditions for observing faint deep-sky objects such as galaxies and nebulae under dark skies.
Full Hunter’s Moon
Oct. 28, moonrise around 6:30 p.m. Traditionally marks hunting preparations for winter. Great for capturing detailed lunar shots or atmospheric moonlit landscapes.

Auditions Announced for “Into the Woods” at NVC. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 5 p.m. Napa Valley College Performing Arts will hold auditions for its upcoming production of “Into the Woods” in the main theater of the Performing Arts Center. This Tony Award-winning musical by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim intertwines classic fairy tales in a richly layered story of wishes, consequences and unexpected twists.
