The 43rd Napa Valley Writers’ Conference, a gathering of authors spanning antiquity to contemporary society, is set for July 21-26 at Napa Valley College. On Thursday, May 2, from 3-4:30 p.m., the Cameo will open our doors to the community to celebrate our new spring event, "Water: Essential to Art and Life." Enjoy free popcorn and fountain drinks as you enjoy a “sneak peek” of the “Art to Save the Sea” installation created by the artists at Washed Ashore. Made completely of plastic debris collected from beaches, the colorful and dramatic sculptures of marine animals represent the more than 315 billion pounds of plastic in oceans today and underscore the need for wildlife conservation. The art will be displayed at the Cameo through May 31.
Brad Parks, the Conservation Education Director at Washed Ashore, will be leading a free arts workshop from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, May 4 at the Blue Zones store/office at 1422 Main St. in St. Helena. There will be two workstations where you will work with a Washed Ashore artist, who will guide you in crafting pieces made from marine debris. These pieces will become part of a new stunning sculpture at Washed Ashore. The first workstation is for children from 5-8; the second is for those from 9-12. April 23: Full Pink Moon: The full moon in April, known as the Pink Moon, occurs at 3:50 p.m. and signifies the sprouting of moss pink, one of the early spring flowers. It's also a time when coastal tribes noted the upstream migration of shad fish.
