(R) Napa Valley CNPS hike calendar
The Napa Valley Chapter of the California Native Plant Society has announced its field trips for March 2024, including hikes to Moore Creek on March 16, Mount Burdell Preserve near Novato on March 23 and Bothe-Napa Valley State Park on March 30. All trips will start with a carpool/caravan from the parking lot between Target and Pharmaca in Bel Aire Plaza off Trancas Street in Napa at 9 a.m. Hikers must sign a waiver and are reminded to bring snacks, lunch and water and to wear sturdy shoes. (R) Fire Resources Fair at Napa Valley Expo
The Napa Valley Grapegrowers, Napa Valley Vintners, CAL FIRE/Napa County Fire and Napa Firewise are hosting the third annual Fire Resources Fair on Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Napa Valley Expo. This community-wide event is free to the public and will feature exhibitors providing resources for wildfire prevention and mitigation. Highlights include talks by the Napa County fire administrator and fire captain on defensible space and fuel-load reduction, as well as a range of kid-friendly activities such as the Nimbus Arts Nim-bus and fire-hose target practice. OHM Coffee and Tacos El Muchacho Alegre will be serving refreshments. The event, supported by a USDA Risk Management Agency Grant, is located at the Napa Valley Expo. Afternoon in the Vineyards, set for Saturday, April 13, from 1 to 3 p.m., offers Napa County residents a chance to learn about local vineyards. The free event includes sessions at Grgich Hills Estate in American Canyon, V. Sattui Winery in Napa, Cakebread Cellars in Rutherford and Napa Wine Co. in Oakville, each focusing on different aspects of viticulture. RSVP is necessary. Napa Neighbor is a program offering special benefits from select local wineries to Napa County residents. (N) Festival Napa Valley summer season tickets now on sale
Festival Napa Valley, known for its (mostly) classical music presentations, announced that tickets for its 2024 summer season, running from Saturday, July 6, through Sunday, July 21, went on sale Wednesday, March 13. The festival offers a blend of music, wine and cuisine set against the scenic backdrop of Napa Valley. Patrons can also purchase patron passes for preferred seating, valet parking, lounge access and exclusive events that include vintners’ luncheons and patron dinners. (N) Fire Safe Fair at Silverado Resort Mansion Garden Tent
The Fire Safe Fair, a free public event focused on fire safety and preparedness, will be held at the Silverado Resort Mansion Garden Tent on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Featured speakers include state Sen. Bill Dodd, CAL FIRE unit chief Mike Marcucci and Napa County fire administrator David Shew. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with 30 fire resource exhibitors and preparedness experts, gaining valuable knowledge on protecting homes and designing fire-safe yards. The Napa Climate NOW! Green Screen Film Series is shown at the American Canyon Library on Saturdays from 1 to 2 p.m., featuring short films and activities for preschoolers to adults. The lineup includes "Plastic-Free Lunch Day" on April 6 and "Tail of Two Farms," "The Hottest Day" and "Change the World in 5 Minutes" on June 1. Calistoga Wine & Culinary Experience 2024 at the Four Seasons Napa Valley is on April 13, 1 to 4 p.m. Featuring nearly 30 wineries and eight restaurants, this third-year festival highlights the flavors of Calistoga. Sample diverse wines and culinary delights from local eateries, including locally owned wineries. Tickets are $250, non-refundable, and restricted to ages 21 and over. An educational wine seminar and blind tasting event will be held at Venge Vineyards, 4708 Silverado Trail North, on Saturday, April 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wine educator Len Tolstunov, WSET 3, will lead the session, focusing on wines from the United States, Italy and Spain, including varietals such as cabernet sauvignon, Chianti and Rioja. On Sunday morning, April 21, at 10 a.m., St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will be hosting an event for all Calistogans who are passionate about the well-being of our community. The event will begin with a gathering in the church, 1504 Myrtle St., and a short sermon by the Rev. William “Father Mac” McIlmoyl to be followed by a meal catered by a local vendor. Father Mac and several members of St. Luke’s explain what they understand their mission in Calistoga to be. There will be no charge. The event will serve to kick off Calistoga’s wellness week with a focus on the spiritual practices that promote growth in awareness and compassion, especially in difficult times such as these when it seems to be getting harder to find a safe port in the storm. (R) Spring Awakening at NVC Performing Arts Center
NVC Performing Arts presents "Spring Awakening," a Tony Award-winning musical set in 19th-century Germany that showcases the struggles of teenagers grappling with sexuality and societal expectations. March 15 and 16 at 7 p.m. and March 17 at 2 p.m. The production, with music by Duncan Sheik and book by Steven Sater, features a cast of NVC students and alumni.
