Good evening,
Welcome to the third day of Napa Valley Features. I hope you enjoyed Sasha Paulsen's piece this morning, which paid tribute to Mother's Day and the power of perseverance.
We don't want to overload your email inbox, but I wanted to share some exciting news: Paul Franson, a prominent local figure, has joined our team. Every Friday, he will provide us with his top ten recommendations for weekend activities throughout the valley. As a long-time resident of the area, Franson has written about wine, food and the arts for decades, and his extensive knowledge has been featured in publications such as his must-read newsletter, "Napa Life," the Napa Register, and local radio station KVON. Although Franson will provide recommendations for this weekend, I just found out about a few other events over the next few days that are worth mentioning.
You'll hear more tomorrow morning about Dan Dawson when he gives us his wine pick of the week, and I outline his wine-centric background, but he's also hosting a wine and food tasting event at his wine shop, Outer Space Wines in Napa, tomorrow evening, May 11, from 5 pm to 7:30 pm. The event explores the relationship between salt and the taste of wine, and tickets are $20 per person. For more information, visit https://outerspace.wine/events/how-salt-affects-the-taste-of-wine/.
If Hip Hop is your vibe, on Friday, May 12th, Cliff Lede Vineyards in Yountville is hosting their very own DJ Jason Lede from 4 pm to 6 pm. If you go, check out the amazing lupin blooming between the vines. The entrance fee is $20. More information is available at https://www.sthelena.com/event/hip-hop-happy-hour-at-cliff-lede-vineyards/2023-05-12/.
On Saturday, May 13th, there is a fundraiser for Calistoga's historic Sharpsteen Museum at Canard Vineyard from 1 pm to 4 pm. If you're not familiar with either entity, they are both worth a look. Tickets are available at the event. Garden tour and tasting are $75 per person. For more information, visit https://www.sharpsteenmuseum.org/copy-of-special-exhibits.
In Napa, there's a lot going on, but the grapes-to-glass hike at Pine Ridge Vineyards on May 13th, from 9:30 am to 11 am, caught our eye. Although it's a bit pricey, the views are probably breathtaking this time of year. The cost is $110 per person with a member discount. For more information, visit https://www.napavalley.com/event/morning-hike-and-tasting-at-the-ridge-series/2023-05-13/.
Why not try yoga and wine tasting at Lang & Reed on Saturday, May 13th, from 11 am to 2 pm? It's hard to imagine how it will work exactly, but given the creativity and skill of the owners of the brand — the Skupny Family — it's sure to be entertaining at the very least! The cost is $75 per person. For more information, visit https://langandreed.com/tastingsalon.
If you'd like to support the American Canyon 4-H, there's "Cow Patty Bingo" on Saturday, May 13th, from 11 am to 2 pm. It sounds like a fun event! $20 for one "Cow Patty" square and $50 for three. For more information, visit https://business.amcanchamber.org/events/details/cow-patty-bingo-4052
