After the busy weekends we’ve been having, things have quieted down a bit, but we are still celebrating Pride month. And Juneteenth, which is next Monday, will mostly be noted on the weekend. We finally see a concert for our large and generally underserved Spanish-speaking population, and we’ll have a chance to see hawks and owls up close. There’s always plenty to do in Napa Valley:
Frog’s Leap Winery in Rutherford welcomes owl and raptor rescue organization West Coast Falconry with trained birds of prey on Sunday.
Blue Note presents a rare concert in Spanish with its Festival del Verano at the Meritage Resort on Friday, featuring La Santa Cecilia, Las Cafeteras and La Misa Negra.
“The Great American Trailer Park Musical” at Lucky Penny has been extended a week. Make sure to see it; we all need a few laughs, even if they’re guilty.
Next Monday is Juneteenth, which celebrates the day Texas, the last slave-holding state in the Confederacy, emancipated the slaves. On Saturday, Be Bubbly holds Bubbles & BBQ by chef Leilani and music by Ariel Marin. On Sunday American Canyon will have a big COMMunityFest and the CIA at Copia welcomes Tanya Holland for a special Juneteenth celebration. Napa's first Juneteenth observation will be on Monday in Oxbow Commons with fun and entertainment.
It’s Tiki Time at Napa Valley Museum in Yountville on Saturday. Get out your aloha shirt and muumuu and view three new exhibitions, Tiki Dreams, California Road Trip and Mini Masterpieces, while you enjoy Trader Vic’s drinks and pu pus.
The Napa Valley Jazz Society presents vibraphonist Warren Wolf and pianist Edward Simon on Sunday. It’s at the Blue Note, but buy tickets from the NVJS.
Science is coming as E & M Presents Doktor Kaboom in “Look Out, Science Is Coming” on Saturday at the Napa Valley College Performing Arts Center.
Jarvis Conservatory presents a rare live opera here with Pocket Opera’s delightful “Orpheus in the Underworld” on Saturday. You certainly know its “Galop Infernal” (also known as “Can-Can”).
Pop violinist Mads Tolling and the Mads Men bring their sounds of the ‘60s to the White Barn in St. Helena on Saturday.
One of the most beloved movies of all times, “Casablanca,” will be screened at the Moonshine at the Mount View Hotel in Calistoga on Sunday night.
