In my own words – Liz Alessio
NAPA VALLEY, Calif. — With the March 5 primary election just weeks away, I am spending every day listening to and talking with Napa residents, sharing my vision for Napa County's future. As a candidate to represent Napa County's Second Supervisorial District, I am taking this opportunity to provide a bit about my background and key priorities.
Since being elected to the Napa City Council for the term starting in December 2018 then re-elected for a second term, it has been an honor to serve Napa. I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish by working together. We advanced the 2040 General Plan to include new priorities such as climate change, public health policies, and DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging) that support solution-oriented policies to improve the quality of life, environmental stewardship and equity in our community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we supported our small business community and approved outdoor dining including closing a section of Main Street for the health, safety and vitality of our residents and visitors. Additionally, I worked collaboratively with local stakeholders to prevent evictions and provide rental assistance to keep residents housed and reduce financial hardships on landlords.
I have grown to be a regional leader in the Napa Valley, working on issues that impact not only the city of Napa but county-wide, including Napa County Climate Action Committee (Chair) and Napa Valley Transportation Authority (Chair), Napa-Solano Area on Aging, Napa Valley Suicide Prevention Council, Napa County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Napa County Historical Society, Hands Across the Valley, Operation: Love from Home and the Napa Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s and Dementia. My dedicated involvement has also allowed me to build collegial working relationships with residents and leaders in the county and statewide.
I am running for the Napa County Board of Supervisors because we need engaged leadership willing to do the hard work of collaboration, building consensus and delivering meaningful results to our residents.
As your supervisor, I will seek new opportunities and solutions prioritizing affordable and workforce housing; improve access and efficiencies to quickly receive county mental health and substance abuse treatment programs; take a comprehensive approach to enhancing a regional systemwide coordination and communication in housing our homeless to meet their needs so they can rebuild their lives.
I am also committed to continuing to bring government, private industry and residents together as we transition to clean energy, build more sustainably and invest in more fire prevention and emergency preparedness in this time of climate change. I am committed to improving infrastructure, especially our public roads and bike lanes, reducing traffic congestion and serious injuries with proven traffic calming measures. I am committed to building a strong economy that supports a living wage, so residents can live a life of dignity and personal fulfillment.
I am proud to have a diverse range of community leaders who support my vision and are endorsing me in the race for supervisor: Congressman Mike Thompson, Senator Bill Dodd, Assembly Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, the Napa City Council members including mayor Scott Sedgley and all the other Napa County mayors. I am proud to have received endorsements from labor, Napa Chamber of Commerce, Napa City Fire Association and CalFire, Napa County Sheriff's Deputies, Winegrowers and the Napa County Farm Bureau to name a few. Most of all, I’m honored to earn the endorsement from my hometown neighbors and residents that make Napa and Napa County an incredibly special community to call home.
On a more personal note, I want to share my family legacy of service to community. It started with my great-great grandfather, a hardworking Irish immigrant and stonemason, who settled in Napa County with his wife in the 1870s and was a Napa County supervisor 120 years ago. His daughter Martha went on to a 40-year career as an educator and became the first female principal in Napa County. Martha’s older brother Edward, my great grandfather and a labor leader in the 1930s, was instrumental in ending the 1934 General Strike as president of the Municipal Carmen's Union and president of the General Strike Committee. My father, Lee Hart, a Napa Peace Officer, and my mother, Robin, a local banker, have modeled service to our community my entire life. Serving Napa County and standing up for the men and women that call this valley home has been the purpose and passion of my family for generations. It’s remarkable to think that 120 years after my great-great grandfather represented District 2 on the Board of Supervisors, I am now running to do the same. With your support I will continue this long legacy that has run in my family and defined my life and career. I love our county, our home, and will continue to work hard for all of us.

And once again not a word about the important Lake Berryessa Revitalization Program - which Belia Ramos strongly supprted. The Lake Berryessa region needs the strong suport from all the supervisors, which we've had since 2017, going forward.
