Breaking: Pickett Fire Near Calistoga Grows to 1,200 Acres, Evacuations Underway
CALISTOGA, Calif. — The Pickett Fire east of Calistoga expanded to 1,200 acres by early evening Thursday, forcing evacuations and drawing a massive response from firefighters on the ground and in the air, according to CAL FIRE. The blaze, which began around 2:57 p.m. near the 2300 block of Pickett Road, remains 0% contained.

The fire is burning in steep terrain with a moderate rate of spread and short-range spotting. Winds are currently blowing southeast, pushing the fire away from downtown Calistoga, though officials warn conditions could shift.
Large plumes of smoke are visible throughout Napa Valley, and aircraft are dropping retardant as crews work to slow the advance.
